Klaus M Stiefel, PhD
Born and raised in Austria, Klaus did his undergraduate studies at the University of Vienna (microbiology) and his doctorate work at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt, Germany (zoology/neuroscience). His research career led him to the Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA, OIST in Japan, and the University of Western Sydney. His scientific interests include computational neuroscience, especially numerical simulations, and evolutionary & marine biology. Here is a link to Klaus' scholarly publications.
Klaus currently lives as an independent scientist, popular science writer, nature photographer and scuba instructor in the Philippines. In September 2016 he will spend a month as a guest scientist at the Konrad Lorenz Institute in Vienna. Klaus speaks German (native), English, Visayan and basic Japanese.
Jay S Coggan, PhD
Jay is the founder of My Science Agents as well as founder and Board President of the NeuroLinx Research Institute, a non-profit pioneer in open science whose mission is to create a working space for both funding and ideas innovation in neuroscience. Previously, Jay was a scientific editor at Cell Press / Neuron and a biophysics and computational biology researcher at the Salk Institute, Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), University of California at San Diego (UCSD), Washington University (St. Louis) and Stanford University. He received his PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the University of Arizona, Tucson and a BA in Psychology (Bio) from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Jay's research foci have been on synaptic plasticity mechanisms, ion channel functions, cell metabolism and models of demyelination diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
